Welcome to My World Blog
Trip to Chandler Oklahoma
Dad and I took a drive out to Chandler Oklahoma, I wanted to see the old Western Auto Store that my Grandpa Used to own. I have memories of playing on the second level of the building. There was an old car elevator that took cars up to the second level. There were several old cars up there along with a lot of pigeons. I was given a BB gun and told to go clear out the birds. Well it kept me occupied for a long time, since that little BB gun could not hurt a pigeon LOL. I remember a bicycle that you could split the front tire and the back tire, so you could ride down the road with the front tire on the left side and the back tire on the right side, guess you had to see it to understand.
We then drove out of downtown looking for the apartments that Granny & Grandpa lived in, didn't take long and there it was. I remember making friends with a girl at the apartments and here screaming one time and holding on to here pant leg, yelling that something had crawled up her pant leg. She would not let go of it, we had to cut her pants leg open to reveal that it was a lizard that had run up her pant leg. She had squeezed it so hard that it was dead.
I also remember my Grandpa and I throwing the baseball around a few times. They let my sister Shannon and I ride the mopeds up the street to the cemetery one time. We were looking around for the oldest grave there, when it started getting dark. All the sudden a whole bunch of tarantula's came out of the ground, we ran and got on our Mopeds and tried to get the heck out of this nightmare (I HATE SPIDERS). I ran off the road and over someone's grave trying to avoid hitting the tarantulas that were all over the road. Oh man, that was nightmare material for me. LOL!
On the way to Chandler via the old Route 66, we stopped at a place called Pops http://www.pops66.com, it was a gas station that had several hundred different types of Soda Pops that you cloud buy, we got a six pack of several different flavors.
The next stop was at the round barn. It was the big red round barn that was on the side of Route 66. It was built back in the 1800's, I asked the curator there, why a round barn, he told me that the devil could not trap you in a corner in a round room. I also heard that a guy ran himself to death looking for a corner to pee in.
On the way back, we came across an old rock building that turned out to be an old gas station with a pretty interesting story to go along with it.
Until next time,
