I own several different camera bodies. It always good to have more than one, you never know when one will stop working right in the middle of a shoot, and its nice to have several lens choices on the quick.
Meet the New Game-Changer.
Changing the way users capture still images and video with a DSLR camera, Canon proudly introduces the EOS 70D – a trailblazing powerhouse featuring a revolutionary autofocus technology that unlocks the potential of Live View: Dual Pixel CMOS AF. This game-changing technology allows the EOS 70D to capture video in Live View with smooth and precise autofocus similar to that of a camcorder, complete with the superb image quality that is a hallmark of EOS cameras. Additionally, Dual Pixel CMOS AF provides fast and accurate autofocus during Live View still image capture, enabling you to fully benefit from the freedom of angle allowed by the Vari-angle Touch Screen 3.0-inch Clear View LCD monitor II. Compositional options are now nearly limitless with the two real-world choices of Live View and viewfinder shooting. Once you choose your glass, your stuck with the body you choose, unless you want to spend a whole lot more money. This is the line up that I have gone with, always subject to change.
L-series super telephoto zoom lens equipped with an Image Stabilizer. The fluorite and Super UD-glass elements largely eliminate secondary spectrum. The floating system also ensures high picture quality at all focal lengths. The Image Stabilizer has two modes and it is compatible with Extenders 1.4x II and 2x II.
Another telephoto macro lens with a maximum magnification of 1x. Life-size close-ups can be taken from a farther distance without disturbing the subject (insects, etc.). The internal floating system minimizes fluctuations in aberrations caused by changes in the focusing distance. Optical performance is outstanding from 1x to infinity.
The Canon EF 50mm F1.8 II is the least expensive lens currently available for the EOS system, and has been in the lineup since late 1990. It's a simplified version of the original EF 50mm F1.8 of 1987 (often referred to as the 'Mark I') which was supplied as standard with some of Canon's earliest 35mm EOS SLRs; however it can trace its lineage back a lot further than that, as the company has been making 50mm F1.8 standard lenses since 1959. Like its predecessor, it uses simple symmetric Gaussian optics with six elements in five groups, in a well-proven formula which is known to offer excellent correction of aberrations.
Although designed as a 'standard' lens for 35mm film, these days the 50mm F1.8 is far more likely to be seen doing service on APS-C format DSLRs, on which it behaves like a short telephoto portrait lens (80mm equivalent). With its remarkably low (sub-$100) price, it tends to attract the interest of Canon SLR users looking to start experimenting with fast lenses for low light and shallow depth of field work, or simply hoping to get sharper results than those which can be provided by the kit lens bundled with the camera body. It's also a potential option for those seeking a near-disposable lens to use in adverse conditions.
Whats a camera setup without some lights. There is so many different lighting choices out there, and here is what I decided to go with. Lighting technology is changing fast, hard to keep up with.

No lens is complete without some form of filter. The right filter in place on the end of a lens could be the difference between a good shot and a great shot, or so I have read. Who really knows, but good to have around.
The ExpoDisc transmits 18% of light in the visible spectrum through to your camera’s film or image sensor. Much like a traditional gray card, the resulting featureless image, or 'gray frame' that is captured through the ExpoDisc represents the average color of light at the physical location of the ExpoDisc. By setting a custom white balance digital cameras can effectively compensate for, and neutralize the color of light represented in the 'gray frame', resulting in good color balance for that particular light source.
The Cokin Creative Filter System consists of a rectangular plastic filter holder with four slots (one for Cokin rotating filters and three for rectangular ones), a variety of optional adapter rings which click into place and rotate, and many optical resin filters.
There are two Cokin sizes, "A" & "P". The "A" series is adequate for 35mm cameras and camcorders, and fits filter sizes from 36-62mm. The "P" series covers diameters from 48-82mm, and is generally preferred for everything, particularly wide-angle lenses. Over 100 filters and a wide range of accessories are available for each system, i.e. modular lens hoods, lens caps, and storage boxes.
Basically, this Gradual Neutral Grey reduces the total amount of light reaching the film without affecting the color balance. It restores the balance between the main subject and the foreground/background. 120 is color 1.
Gradual Grey G2 (ND8) Ref. 121
Basically, this Gradual Neutral Grey reduces the total amount of light reaching the film, but without affecting the colour balance. It restores the balance between the main subject and the foreground/background. 121 is color 2.
- ND2 reduces amount of light to 50%
- ND4 reduces amount of light to 25%
- ND8 reduces amount of light to 12.5%
- in other words, ND-2 absorbs 1 F-stop of light. ND-4 absorbs 2 F-stops of light. ND-8 absorbs 3 F-stops of light.
Neutral Density Filters
These filters reduce the amount of light passing through the camera lens without changing the color of the scene. They are especially useful in bright light conditions to help prevent overexposure. Neutral Density filters also allow proper exposure at a wider lens opening for reduced depth-of-field to highlight a key subject by making the foreground and/or background out of focus.
• Eliminates overly bright, washed-out images
• Balances exposure
• Controls depth-of-field
• Allows slower shutter speeds to produce blurred motion effects
The Polaroid 77mm Neutral Density Fader Filter is a solid variable neutral density filter providing a reduction of about 1.3 to 8.6 stops. The ND 3x to ND 400x density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, allowing you to previsualize the additional exposure length required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.
Variable neutral density filter allows you to dial in differing amounts of density scene to scene.
3x to 400x neutral density filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.
Providing a reduction of 1.3 to 8.6 stops, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.
Filter does not affect coloration of the image and can be used with other filters.
Multicoated glass filter for optical clarity and color fidelity.
To help minimize vignetting, the front filter thread dimensions are larger than the mounting thread dimensions; for stacking filters, the front thread diameter is 82mm.
Ready for that low light photograph or that long exposure shot? Well you have to a have a good remote to make sure you don't share that camera around and get blurry pictures. We have wired and wireless, I'm a fan of the wireless.
